William “Bill” Hersey was Kennedy Krieger’s first Director of Social Work.  When Bill retired in 1978, it was his wish that an annual award be given to an employee in recognition of that person’s dedication and commitment to helping individuals with disabilities.  

This annual award is given to a Kennedy Krieger employee nominated by their colleagues who best exemplifies the qualities personified by Bill.  

These qualities are:
•    Realistic Optimism
•    Caring Attitude
•    Loyalty
