**This event is open to the public, and is appropriate for beginner to intermediate professionals, paraprofessionals, and other direct care staff involved in working with youth and families exposed to complex trauma situations.**

This training's purpose is to provide an overview of treatment models which are effective in the treatment of complex trauma for youth and adults. In addition to introducing various treatment models, the module will touch upon considerations for selecting treatment that is the best fit for a client and/or their family.

This module is a part of the Complex Trauma Training Consortium Master Series (CTTC Training Module #10). This project is supported by National Child Traumatic Stress Initiative (NCTSI) Category II Treatment & Services Adaptation Centers Grant # H79SM085102 awarded to Adelphi University through the Substance Abuse & Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), Center for Mental Health Services (CMHS).

Target audience:  This intermediate level 1.5 hour workshop is appropriate for beginner to  intermediate professionals, paraprofessionals, and other direct care staff involved in working with youth and families exposed to complex trauma situations.  Some introductory background in complex trauma is useful.

Learning Objectives:

Attendees will be able to:

• Identify the importance or need of EBP for complex trauma survivors.
• Differentiate treatment models for various levels of development (caretaker and youth, youth and adults, etc.).
• Appraise evidence-based models adapted for complex trauma (EMDR, TF-CBT).
• Identify emerging and complementary treatment models.
• Describe complimentary models (Trauma Drama, Equine Facilitated).
• Evaluate considerations when selecting treatment (individual, cultural).

Presenter Bio:

Jennifer Shepard Payne, Ph.D., LCSW-C is faculty at the Kennedy Krieger Institute within the Center for Child and Family Traumatic Stress (CCFTS). Additionally, she is an assistant professor at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in the Department of Psychiatry, Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. She founded and owns DTG Counseling and Consulting LLC, a private practice committed to helping individuals facing anxiety or trauma, with an emphasis on culture and faith. 

Dr. Payne earned a Ph.D. in Social Welfare from UCLA and is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with extensive experience in mental health practice. She developed a culturally tailored Acceptance and Commitment Therapy intervention called POOF™ and provides training and consultation on the model. Her book, *Out of the Fire: Healing Black Trauma Caused by Systemic Racism Using Acceptance and Commitment Therapy*, delivers a heartfelt message for Black individuals and others enduring the debilitating effects of systemic racism.

Continuing Education:

Kennedy Krieger Institute, Center for Child and Family Traumatic Stress is authorized by the Board of Social Work Examiners in Maryland to sponsor social work continuing education learning activities and maintains full responsibility for this program. This training qualifies for Category I continuing education units.  Social Workers will be provided 1.5 CEUs.

Center for Child and Family Traumatic Stress-Training Academy reserves the right to cancel any of its workshops due to unforeseen circumstances. In this event, we will refund the registration fee only and not additional costs associated with attending the workshop.
