This session will be hosted by Dr. Rebecca Landa. The guests include Shelli and Alec, and their two autistic children. Shelli was diagnosed with autism two years ago. Her teen-aged daughter was recently diagnosed, and her college-age son was diagnosed at age 5 years. Shelli and her family will explain how they experience autism, giving insights into the ways autism manifests differently in different people. We explore barriers to diagnosis, common misperceptions about autism, what has helped, and how the community can convey acceptance and support to autistic individuals.
